Welcome to Crested Butte -
Worth getting to...
The Resort:
Crested Butte is an impressive mountain. From the town and mountain village it stands out like a huge thumb pointing skyward. It has some of the most renowned extreme skiing terrain anywhere and was the home of the first Colorado X-games, as well as the extreme Freeskiing, Boarderfest & Telemark championships. The town is located in the south west of the state, north east of Telluride and south west of Aspen. It was originally settled as a mining town back in the 1880's during the Colorado Gold Rush. The town of Crested Butte itself boasts one of the largest historic districts in the state from that period, and is a charming and very pretty little town. It is easy to walk around and has many interesting and diverse shops, restaurants and bars. The nightlife also has sometimes been accused of being a touch extreme too!!!The mountain village is located around the base of the ski area about 3 miles to the north and east of the old town. Most of the lodging choices (and they are many and varied) are located in this area. There are free local shuttle buses connecting all of the lodging to the lifts and the old town for easy local access. Crested Butte is a relaxed and laid back town, which is as exiting as it is unpretentious. You will love its genuine feel and great western hospitality. Well worth the little extra effort to get here!
