Welcome to Winter Park & Mary Jane -
Wide Open Spaces!

The Resort:

Winter Park has a long history - for more than 60 years people have been skiing and riding on its slopes, and many of the trails are named after illustrious characters and those closely involved with its development. It has the unique advantage of being located right at the western end of the Moffat Tunnel, providing a direct ski train link to the city of Denver (which actually owns the resort). It is also the closest major ski resort to Denver itself, being less than an hour by road west on Interstate 70 and then North on Hwy 40.

The mountain village is fairly small at the moment with only a few lodges that can provide ski-in ski-out access. The main town of Winter Park itself is located just a mile or two north on Hwy 40. There are numerous shuttle busses connecting most of the Fraser Valley with the ski area, and getting to and from the slopes from your in-town lodging is never a problem. Over the next few years the mountain village is set to be transformed with the Intrawest corporation being charged with the resort development of a new base village similar to the development work that they have carried out at Copper Mountain Resort only a few miles to the west.

The town itself is small enough to walk around and has a good selection of bars and restaurants and shopping. Nightlife is not quite as hot as downtown Denver, but there are several local bars and clubs which will keep you entertained with many featuring live music with local musicians performing nightly. Winter Park is a great choice for families and groups with very reasonable lodging prices, some including meal plans. The town has a great atmoshpere and a real home town feel, and the mountain is every bit as good as some of the glitzier and more expensive areas. It also has the most predictable snowfall in the state....
